Donald Fagen Teases RNC House Band About Playing Steely Dan Music

Upon learning that Sixwire, the house band at the Republican National Convention, was performing Steely Dan music during the week's festivities, Dan cofounder Donald Fagen suggested a more appropriate soundtrack for Thursday night's proceedings: his and Todd Rundgren's 2017 GOP diss track "Tin Foil Hat."

Fagen made the suggestion via an update on Steely Dan's official website.

The song, from Rundgren's 2017 album White Knight, is a pointed critique of Donald Trump and his 2016 presidential campaign's pandering to right wing conspiracy theorists.

"Tin Foil Hat" features Fagen singing the line: "He hasn't go the time for losers / Unless they do as he commands / He's writing checks to his accusers / With his tiny little hands."

You can listen to the song via the player above.

Rundgren explained in a 2017 interview that the song was written "fresh" after the 2016 election "and we were still pretty mad about it, so it happened pretty organically."

He added in the same interview the Trump supporters attending his shows that year would "likely be offended."

Trump on Thursday night, the finale of the RNC convention, formally accepted the republican nomination for President.
