Chillicothe City Schools is suspending their winter sports contests and all other extra curricular activities until January 5th, due to the recent spikes in COVID-19 cases.
This word came late Tuesday afternoon, after the remaining Ross County schools of Adena, Huntington, Paint Valley, Southeastern, Unioto, and Zane Trace announced they would proceed, but with some restrictions following consultations with the Ross County Health District.
In a letter sent to Chillicothe staff and homes of district athletes, Chillicothe officials pointed to the "greater risk" their athletes and coaches face due to contests that has them traveling to more counties than many of their other Ross County schools.
Practices and skill training for Chillicothe athletes and coaches will be able to continue in small groups, while observing COVID safety protocols that have already been in place.
All outside visitors including alumni and community members will be prohibited from using Chillicothe's gym facilities during this suspension of competition.
The restrictions for the remaining Ross County schools include: No youth sports (biddy or pee wee) through January 4th, grades 7-12 contests will only be allowed two tickets per player with no other fans, only allowing home cheer squads, no pep bands and no concessions. Fans are also not permitted to bring food or drink into the contests.
