Paint Valley & Piketon Football To Get Artificial Field Surfaces

Two more SVC schools will join the world of playing football on artificial surfaces in the fall of 2019. Piketon School Board approved their new field in February and Paint Valley's Board of Education followed suit Monday night with a similar decision.

Paint Valley's Board of Education has given the OK for a new artificial football field surface, new track and digital scoreboard. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Pete Hollon confirmed that word Monday, after telling iHeart Media Sports one week ago that the plan was in the works and needed only board approval to move forward.

The improvements will cost just under $1 million and be driven by private contributions/donations.

Paint Valley lost the ability to host a week one playoff game last fall after their championship game against Adena destroyed the field due to heavy rains, in what became known as the "Mud Bowl".

Unknown to iHeart Media Sports, Piketon had already made the decision to replace their football field and track at a February meeting after talks about their improvements began last fall. Piketon Football Coach Tyler Gullion confirmed to iHeart Media Sports that the location of the Redstreaks new football field will move to where the soccer stadium has been. A new running track will also be added as well. Piketon Athletic Director Keith Dettwiler says Piketon will host their first game on the new field in Week 2, vs Wellston.

Zane Trace became the first SVC school to install an artificial surface a few years ago.

Other area schools to add artificial surface football fields in recent years have been Chillicothe, Miami Trace, and Waverly. Jackson and Lucasville Valley were among the first, more than a decade ago.
