Circleville Edges Washington In Nail Biter

A foul on a last second half-court heave at the end of regulation ended up giving Circleville a 47-46 victory over Washington Court House Thursday night.


The Blue Lions came out hot in the first quarter, they were able to get some transition buckets which allowed them to get in their full-court press and force Circleville into 8 turnovers. Washington went on a 15-1 run to take 17-12 lead into the second quarter.


Circleville was able to keep things close in the second, outscoring the Lady Lions 15-11 by utilizing 6' sophomore post player Kenzie McConnell who had 13 first half points on her way to a game high 22, but Washington led by one going into the half 22-21.


In the second half the Lady Tigers led for the first time since the opening seconds of the game when they took a 26-24 lead with 6:20 to go in the third quarter, from that point the lead would change 14 times throughout the rest of the game. 


Neither team could pull away with both teams having players step up big and knock down timely buckets. 


Circleville took a 36-33 lead into the final quarter. Washington Court House outscored Circleville in the final period 13-11 but a foul on a last second half court heave send Kenzie McConnell to the free throw line with .5 seconds remaining. She was able to knock down one of her three free throws to give the Tigers the victory.


McConnell led all scores with 22 for Circleville and Shayna Hoop scored 14 points all in the second half. The Lady Tigers (2-0) finished the night shooting 19-44 for 43%, they committed 17 turnovers and were just 6-14 from the free throw line.


Washington Court House (1-2) was led in scoring by Hannah Haithcock and Rayana Burns each with 12, Halli Wall finished with 8 including a 3-pointer with just seconds remaining to tie the game. 


Shawna Conger finished with 7 and Bre Taylor had 6. On the night they shot 19-56 for 34%, committed 12 turnovers and were 6-10 from the charity stripe.
