Perry Pounds Teays Valley in Softball State Semi

Massillon Perry scored in every inning, except one, in their 12-3 Division 1 State Softball Semifinal win over the Lady Vikings of Teays Valley at Akron's Firestone Stadium Thursday evening.

Perry scored single runs in the top of the first and second for a 2-0 lead, but Teays Valley answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to even the score at 2-2. But that was the extent of the good news for the Vikes, as Perry went on a 10-1 run the rest of the way with three in the third inning, four in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh inning.

The star for Perry was Gia Durieux, who smacked three home runs and had four RBI's. Macey Moore had the lone round-tripper for Teays Valley.

Payton Gottshall was the winner on the mound, yielding only five hits, fanning 7 and walking one. Sarah Klein took the loss for the Lady Vikings as she worked 4.2 innings and gave up 9 runs- all of them earned.

Teays Valley closes their season with a (23-4) record, playing in their third Final Four in the past four years. Perry improves to (24-5) and will face Lakota West in the final.
