"Wreaths Across America" in Chillicothe's Greenlawn Cemetery December 17th

An annual national effort to recognize veterans who rest in cemeteries happens in little more than a week, Saturday, December 17th. Kevin Coleman spoke with the organizer of the local effort.

Connie Meyer is with the Nathaniel Massie chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is the local chair of "Wreaths Across America" with a focus on Chillicothe's east side cemetery. She says they will be placing 1,200 wreaths starting at noon in Veteran's Square in Greenlawn Cemetery at Eastern and Watt streets.

Meyer says this has become a major effort, ranked at about 9th in the state...and volunteers would be welcome to help receive the shipment of wreaths at 9am Tuesday, December 13th, at the AmVets building on East Main Street near the overpass.

You can coordinate with her at 740 / 772-5878, and learn more at the Wreaths Across America website. And, hear how the national effort started, and how the local effort has evolved, in the interview below.
