Lady Blue Lions Roar Past Waverly for Sectional Title

The Washington Court House Lady Blue Lions cruised to victory Thursday night in the Girls Division II Sectional Championship 61-23 over the Waverly Lady Tigers from Adena High School.

The Lady Lions led from the tip and never looked back as they jumped out to a 24-12 first quarter lead and only gave up one point in the second quarter to 37-13 at the half.

The Lady Lions used defense to turn to offense as they forced 13 turnovers in the first half and were able to turn those turnovers into points and forced Waverly to shoot 27% on just 4-18 shooting. Washington benefited from many easy shot opportunities as they shot 45% from inside the arc and 57% from outside the arc on their way to 48% total shooting in the half.

The second half was much of the same as Bre Taylor a Senior guard for the Blue Lions started to take over on her way to a game high and career high 21 points.

Waverly came out inspired in the third period, scoring on their first 3 possessions, but couldn't find the bucket again the rest of the quarter as Washington outscored them 16-6 to increase their advantage to 34 and cruised the rest of the way to the Sectional Championship 61-23.

On the night Washington shot 25-58 for 43% including six 3-point shots, three by Taylor, two from Halli Wall and one from Tabby Woods. They committed just 10 turnovers and out rebounded Waverly 33-15. Washington was led in scoring by Taylor's 21, Hannah Haithcock had 12 and Rayan Burns chipped in with 12, 8 in the first quarter alone.

Washington (18-5) now moves on to the Districts at Southeastern high school on Thursday, Feb. 21st at 8pm.

Waverly (13-10) season came to an end with the loss as they shot just 8-31 for 21% and committed 17 turnovers. They were led in scoring by Zoiee Smith's 8 points.
