Two Waverly Officers Treated for Possible Fentanyl Poisoning

Two Waverly Police Officers were sent to the hospital Friday morning after coming into contact with what is believed to have been fentanyl. The incident took place during a traffic stop on E. Third Street in Waverly.

While searching the vehicle, the officers discovered pills, drug paraphernalia, a cigarette package containing a white powdery substance, and several baggies containing a white and black substance.

While taking inventory of the contraband, one of the officers began to experience trouble with breathing. A short while later the other investigating officer also began to experience the same symptoms. The two officers were taken to Adena Pike for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, Blake Havens, 35, of Beaver, informed Police the white powdery substance seized from the car contained fentanyl and had been purchased in the Chillicothe.

Havens was arrested and charged with Possession of Drugs. Additional charges are pending lab results on the substances found in the vehicle. The case will be presented to the Pike County Grand Jury.
