A day after setting off a firestorm for remarks giving the "alt-left" its share of the blame for the violence in Charlottesville, President Trump has tweeted kind words about its female victim.
"Memorial service today for beautiful and incredible Heather Heyer, a truly special young woman," the president wrote. "She will be long remembered by all!"
The tweet came around 11am EDT, as a service was starting inside an auditorium on the city's Downtown Mall to remember the 32-year-old Heyer. Sen. Tim Kaine and Gov. Terry McAuliffe were among those attending, though the president was not, reports KTLA. One poignant note, per NBC29: The family asked that people wear purple, Heyer's favorite color, and early images suggest many were doing so.
